What debt does America owe to the Iraqi people?

Ok, now here is the real question.

If we at some point were willing to accept that American military presence in Iraq and the Middle East is increasing the violence and tension... i.e. making things worse.

Could we conclude that losing face to the world and "cutting and running" would be a better way of paying our debt, then to stay the course?

What debt does America owe to the Iraqi people?
Worked for Vietnam, that is the course... Unless you're defending yourselves don't attack countries w/out an overwhelming consensus that you really do want to occupy them permanently and run them for their resources. Lies don't cut it long-term.
Reply:Ah, but if you'd permanently occupied Vietnam your biggest capitalists could have run sweatshops their and exploited the poor, ie. the American dream.. Report Abuse

Reply:I don't think Americans OWE anything. The amount of American lives lost takes care of that just fine. And it wasn't like Iraq was a peace loving country before we showed up. We tried to do our best. Period. It did not work out. If anyone is to blame it is the Iraqis for failing to establish peace on their own. America can only do so much. If that country is not willing to sacrifice and compromise in the name of peace. Then there is nothing that anyone can do.
Reply:Stop it with the debt thing. Hasn't America paid enough debt?
Reply:Ok, now here is the real answer. You should never boil milk.
Reply:There would be all out civil war of course.

It was a mistake to invade but now the US must stay and sacrafice more Americans.

Thats the price the US must pay for electing an idiot.

Meanwhile you've got control of 25% of the worlds oil.

And launchpad for invasion of Iran to save the Petrodollar

Reply:Maybe rather than one or the other, there is a middle ground that would work out better for Iraq %26amp; the US. One might be to reduce our forces %26amp; stop all aggressive actions against Iraqi's unless attacked. Quit dictating to the government there. Scrap the Oil Sharing Bill %26amp; let them write their own (w/o the sections of losing most of their oil profits to Big Oil). There are many other possibilities.

It is clear that continuing the occupation is not in our best interests. But the fact that we are dependent on Asian oil to sustain our economy means keeping a presence there is in our interests if that presence is seen as cooperation rather than conflict or big brotherism.
