How do i find out what collections company has my debt?

I just received my credit report and it only gives me the information for the original creditor not the company who purchased the debt. I contacted the original creditor and they told me that they couldn't find my info. The debt is valid from about 2005 with capital one and I am trying to get in contact with whoever I need to pay to settle.

How do i find out what collections company has my debt?
Maybe they just wrote it off, so you won't have to pay anything back. If you haven't received letters from the collection agency, then it doesn't exist, just in your credit history. It should go off your credit report in 7-10 years from the original date.
Reply:If your credit report only shows information from the original creditor and you contacted the original creditor and they told you that they could not find your information, then I would dispute the entry with the credit reporting agency.

This would require them to contact the original creditor to verify the information, which you said they are unable to do. If this is the case then the credit reporting agency would then be required to remove the entry from your credit report.

Even if you found that capital one sold the debt to a third party and you paid the third party this would not help your credit score since capital one has no reason to change what they have reported and whoever currently has the debt hasn't reported it to the credit reporting agencies.

Good Luck
Reply:You really have two options. First, keep contacting Capital One until you reach someone who is willing to assist you. You may have to be very persistent. If that doesn't work, you'll have to wait until you're contacted by the agency who purchased your account. Good luck.
Reply:Hi,

I used "Credit Solution" to settle my debt and improve my credit score. They managed to reduce my debt up to 58%.It's legitimate. I came across this company on NBC News Special Edition.Check it out here:

Reply:They could have just written it off to be honest, if you had any charges that you have claimed back this will go on your credit report as a financial loss to the bank.
Reply:You could always contact who the debt originally belonged to and ask if they will give you the contact info for whoever they sold your debt to.
